WHAT IS THE SOLSTICE LANTERN WALK?
Each December, the Winter Solstice marks the beginning of the winter season in the Northern Hemisphere, and the longest night of the year. This astronomical event is significant to many cultures, religions, and traditions, for many different reasons. For the Hillsborough, NC community, it has become a special evening to gather and usher in the peaceful quiet that the darker, colder months of the year can bring together.
The Solstice Lantern Walk, which will take place at 5:45PM on December 21, 2021, is a non-denominational winter-themed event. We encourage creativity and community participation!
Individuals are asked to bring a handmade lantern that lights up the night, to guide all of us along the walk. ** Lantern Kits are available on the website.
Participants will gather at the Eno River Farmer’s Market Pavilion and be led on a procession through River Park, to the River Walk, and ending back in downtown Hillsborough.
We’re hoping that a group of Newcomers will
meet and enjoy this walk together!

3. If you'd like, also register on the Newcomers website so that we'll wait for you (this is optional- just show up if you'd like to join us)
This event is free for the community. The Arts Council requires registration to assist with managing crowd capacities in light of social distancing. Donations are welcome to help keep this free community event alive and strong!

EVENT SAFETY
To ensure this event is as safe as possible for all participants, we do encourage vaccination prior to participation.
We will require participants to wear masks in crowds and throughout the walk. Please be prepared to social distance between parties. If you feel sick, please stay home. Thank you for your help in reducing the spread of COVID-19 and ensuring future community gatherings!
